Islington Town Hall

I am a big big fan of weddings at Islington Town Hall. Without a doubt it is one of my favourite places to photograph weddings. I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing dozens of weddings there over the years and it never gets boring.

First of all the town hall is stunning. Situated on the A1 running through Islington it’s a building you can’t miss. I always love the atmosphere outside the front while waiting to go in with the couple and their guests and that is always a nice time to start telling the story through wedding photography. Even if you are having a small wedding you can still have documentary wedding photography to give you some amazing memories.

Inside you have the grandest marble staircase going up to the council chamber where most of the bigger wedding ceremonies take place. This beautiful and light room always has such a nice London wedding feel to it. And it’s perfect from a wedding photographers perspective as there is plenty of room to move around to get a wide selection of images and to get creative without distracting or disturbing anyone.

You also have the recently refurbished room 99 which can host up to 20 guests, this is another light and beautiful room to get married in. I have had many couples choose a smaller ceremony in this room and then go on to have a bigger celebration, I have also captured weddings with just witnesses. One of my favourite rooms though for the truly intimate wedding is the Mayor’s Parlour where you can have up to 4 guests, when the light hits in this stunning wood panelled room it makes my heart sing, it’s still gorgeous on a greyer day too ;)

It also has to be said that the staff at Islington Town Hall are just incredible. They make every wedding special and are always so kind to photographers and other suppliers. I have never had a bad experience there and always look forward to going back.

After your ceremony you have that beautiful art deco corridor that’s perfect for some couple photos while your guests get ready for confetti outside on the steps. Of course, on the way down we have to grab a couple on that staircase as well.

It’s then time for confetti with the town hall in the background and then the steps are absolutely perfect for your group photos as well.

The area around Islington Town Hall is PERFECT for some really fun and natural couple photos whatever the weather. The back streets and squares have all the backdrops you could possibly ever ask for and New River Walk isn’t a million miles away either. Some of my favourite venues for small weddings like The Canonbury Tavern or The Drapers Arms are just a short walk away as well.

Basically in a nutshell Islington Town Hall has everything you could possibly need for a beautiful London wedding, big or small.
