2020 The year where love wasn't cancelled.
So here we are. 2020 is over and we have no idea what is in store for 2021.
I haven’t actually done a yearly round up for a couple of years now but there was no way I couldn’t do a nod to the batshit crazy show that was 2020. I mean seriously.
I remember back in the day when the possibility of my industry and business going up in flames was laughable. I also never knew I could hate words, I mean ‘postponement’ has become the word of 2020 and I loathe it.
A lot of my time in the early days of the pandemic was spent feeling physically sick every time my email pinged as another one of couples were asking to move their wedding. I am not going to cover this in glitter for you, watching your work for the year vanish in a matter of weeks is heartbreaking. Not just for me but for each of my couples who this year have been nothing but fucking amazing.
I have lost count of the amount of times I have cried this year, for myself and for my couples. I can not wait for the day I photograph each and every wedding that has had to be moved. They are going to be the most special days of my career.
That being said though somehow I am putting a blog post together of 126 images from the year we thought until June weddings wouldn’t happen.
Somehow they did.
The lesson this year is that love always wins.
And human beings despite hardship will always find a way to celebrate love.
I have had the joy of photographing several small weddings this year. Some had multiple dates as we had to bend to restrictions and the governments weekly u turns. This year has shown me that no matter what people get married and my work will always be needed.
My last session was actually in tier 4. It was just couple photos on the day they were supposed to get married as on the day tier 4 was announced they got a phone call from the registry office asking if they could be there in an hour to get married before midnight. Can you imagine cooking dinner then dropping everything to quickly go and get married before its illegal to do so? Nope, a year ago we wouldn’t. Now we do.
The romance of it all. Plus the fact this is history in the making. Each of these weddings are historical.
They represent the resilience and grit of people who love one another.
And it was privilege to capture them.
I have created beautiful work this year for amazing people and that is something I am immensely proud of.
I have also done a fair few family shoots this year which I have included as all of them have given me so much joy. Especially this year, the families who booked me both gave me a boost in what has been a lot of darkness and kept me on my toes creatively.
I don’t know how 2021 is going to pan out. I know we aren’t out of the woods yet but I am crossing every part of my body that 2021 is going to be filled with many more happy and beautiful days filled with love whatever happens.
