I love doing family photo shoots in London. There are so many different places to go and when it comes to selecting locations as a family photographer I always chat with my clients to find out about where in the city is special to them. I can of course always recommend places but I do feel that it is important to choose places that mean something to you as a family.

And that’s how we wound up shooting around St Dunstan’s in Stepney Green for Kristen & Ed’s family shoot. I was so excited when these got in touch about photos as I photographed their wedding a few years ago and it’s always a joy when I get asked back to do the family photos as well.

The sun was shining on a perfect late summer/early autumn day. It’s that time of year when the leaves are just starting to turn and the days are drawing in but you still have that warmth. It’s definitely one of my favourite times of year.

I loved every second of this shoot. How these guys interact with one another as a family is beautiful and made my job stupidly easy with just some gentle prompts and making the most of the light. I am a firm believer that this natural approach to family photography is the best way. Kids very rarely like to stay still for long so trying to force ‘posing’ just cause friction when instead you can work with the little ones to capture moments that are authentic.

I have really enjoyed family shoots over the last year during the pandemic and I hope I have many more to look forward to.
