How to be meaningful with your wedding cake by Avant Garde Cake Studio
Creating a dessert table that compliments the rest of your wedding, is a focal point, and makes everyone feel included.
Couples usually think about their wedding cake as this mix between the awkward and traditional cake cutting and a dry sponge. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Your wedding cake and desserts can be a focal point in your day; a way to gather all your loved ones, make them feel included, and offer them something unique.
Food is something that gathers people. Even more if you include everyone - and have desserts that are gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and allow everyone to enjoy them together, without feeling like the odd one out. Weddings are these big (even when they are intimate - they are big on emotions) events that revolve around the idea of love and sharing and there is nothing that says sharing more than everyone getting together, around a table of fine food, and eating the same things.
With having a dessert table, you offer this - people having to go to the table, mingling, chatting, choosing their desserts - everyone having an option they can pick rather than having to wait for staff to bring them their special dessert. There is nothing like thinking of everyone’s dietary requirements or tastes to make your guests feel more included and loved. You can also have someone’s favourite dessert; whether they are here and you want to tell them how much they count for you or they have departed your life and you want to honour them in a delicate way.
With a grazing dessert table as well as the wedding cake, you and your guests can keep eating through the night as you take breaks from dancing - or take home a little thing with you, to have for breakfast the next day and remember all the best moments of your day. Big dessert tables double up as wedding favours, they are sustainable, and because they are to be consumed they will not end up cluttering someone’s house.
Your cake table is not a necessity - it’s a fabulous touch that can offer a full sensory experience to your guests. Your cake as well as your desserts can bring together the different aspects of your wedding. Colours, tastes, textures, theme... Even the way you choose to display them can mean a lot and mirror or complement other parts of your wedding. As well as being a feast for your tastebuds and nose, they can also be a wonder for the sight and touch. Don’t be afraid to experiment and talk to your cake decorator about playing around, that is what we’re here for. Nothing makes me happier than couples who dare to be different and when we create something unique together!
