Battersea Arts Centre Wedding with Ellie & Rob
Battersea Arts Centre is a wedding venue that I have wanted to shoot at for a while now, so you can imagine how delighted I was when Ellie & Rob got in touch about their wedding. When we sat down for their consultation we connected instantly and I loved how intentional they were being around their choice for their wedding day.
Things like choosing Battersea Arts Centre because of firstly what the space means to them right up to the work that the venue does for the local arts community. They chose the date 21st June because of the summer solstice and the full moon. And they chose to get married in a circle surrounded by the people they love the most with family & close friends contributing readings & music throughout along with Rob’s Mum marrying them.
And it was other things like asking guests to bring flowers and cakes, having an open mic and a desire to keep things relaxed and joyful. The Birch Trees was an especially beautiful touch.
Battersea Arts Centre itself is an iconic and unique building. For the last 50yrs it has been a venue for the arts, young people and communities. Built in 1893 it was Battersea Town Hall, it was also used by the suffragettes, the origins of social housing and space for diverse and radical politics, this has been continued as it has evolved into an arts centre. The building itself is stunning with magical light, a derelict feel and the most beautiful organ watching over the Grand Hall.
For me weddings are a community event and I loved how Ellie & Rob also recognised this and built their wedding around these values.
The whole day was magic and filled with joy and selecting the photos from such an epic day was not easy. I hope you enjoy their story…
