Sefton Park Palm House Wedding

I am twenty weddings into 2024 so it’s been a little moment since I have been able to find time to blog. I am still behind on blogging from the last few years so doing it in chronological order has gone entirely out the window. Wedding photographer life is challenging at this time of year so I come to you today from a cafe near Kings Cross where I have been waiting for a friend who has been held up. A perfect pocket of time for this.

I photographed Lara & Yazan’s Sefton Park Palm House wedding in June this year and what a JOY this day was. Yazan is Palestinian and Gaza held thoroughly in peoples hearts for this wedding. From the Keffiyeh’s to the jewellery to the Zaffa dancing, Palestinian grief and joy was given a space at this beautiful day.

We started with prep at L&Y’s home in Liverpool, with nine bridesmaids I was in awe of how on time everything was and everyone looked incredible. We of course had to grab a quick photo with Susie the cat before we left for the Palm House. The Palm House looked so beautiful, some of the plants were flowering and this wedding venue has been on my bucket list for a while so photographing here was an absolute dream. It was quite hot though! You are definitely not short on epic backdrops and light in this iconic space.

The ceremony was simple and beautiful, I love that Lara had both her parents walk her down the aisle. It was then straight outside for confetti in the colours of the Palestinian flag and straight into group photos. I always recommend getting them done at this time because it means they get done super quickly and then everyone can go off and enjoy themselves, including my couple.

L&Y had a big energetic entrance into their wedding breakfast which I love. It’s always worth getting some epic music playing and everyone on their feet having a bit of a dance!

The speeches were heartfelt, emotional and hilarious. I always love this part of the day as it’s people who love each other, celebrating one another. We took sometime after the meal to go and capture come couple photos in the park surrounding the Palm House. L&Y as well as being lovely are also funny and we got some pisstaking photos of those cringy couple photos we see in memes.

Then it was time for the Zaffa which is traditional in Palestinian Arab weddings where you have dancers and drummers to welcome the couple and it’s joyful chaos. Everyone gets involved and it’s such an epic celebration and fantastic to capture.

This whole wedding was a joy to photograph and it was really hard to choose the photos for this blog post. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did taking them. Forever and always… Free Palestine 🍉
