Love isn't cancelled: Morgan & Simon's micro wedding in London with a reception at The Bingham in Richmond

Micro Covid wedding in London

This year so far I have photographed four beautiful weddings in London. Three of those have been in our strange new world with Covid and our terrible government dictating some seriously bat shit crazy rules and totally unfair u-turns.

I never ever thought while building my business that I would ever have to face moving an entire year of weddings and have to fight to keep my business and industry afloat. Weddings have always been a huge part of human culture, from the Blitz to refugee camps people still get married. LOVE ALWAYS WINS.

And that hasn’t changed post Covid.

Three of my weddings this year have been in our “new normal” (anyone else hate that term?) and each of them have been uniquely wonderful.

First up was Morgan & Simon and I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding to ease back into it after nearly 7 months of not photographing any.

We started at The Brentham Club for the ceremony. Upon arrival I definitely had some nerves as this was a whole new world of weddings. Would I be allowed to move? What happens if I got too close to someone by accident? Would my viewfinder steam up because of my mask? I already get a layer of nerves before a wedding as I want to get it right for my couple so add Covid to that and it’s even more nerve-wracking.

Fortunately I had nothing to worry about. The Registrars were beyond lovely and the ceremony was super charged with so much emotion. Despite everything Morgan & Simon were still getting married and that’s all that matters.

This is what weddings are ultimately about and I feel like Covid has stripped back all the fluff and reminded people of what’s really important.

Post ceremony it was off to The Bingham in Richmond. This venue has it totally nailed for small weddings. They have the most stunning garden rooms and the one for Morgan & Simon was literally set up as a wedding should be, beautiful flowers, personal touches and a great neon sign plus a gorgeous cake.

It literally was a micro wedding.

The garden at The Bingham is so beautiful and we had some stunning summer light for couples portraits and drinks outside.

It was then on to cake cutting and speeches before I left.

I left with the biggest smile on my face. It wasn’t until this wedding I realised how much I had missed what I do. I love weddings and these small weddings are giving me life.

To anyone thinking of getting married this way, DO IT! You won’t regret it. Three micro weddings in and each of them have been magical. LOVE ISN’T CANCELLED.
