Battle Abbey, Hastings wedding venue inspiration.
I have enjoyed photographing a couple of weddings now at the stunning Battle Abbey in East Sussex so I am really excited to share Katie & Chris’s gorgeous day at this historic venue.
Battle Abbey is a really great wedding venue and quite unique. The main building is actually a school most of the time but as you can see from the photos it’s a very nice school. This East Sussex wedding venue has the dramatic grand hall with the battle of Hastings portrayed in this dramatic piece of art and the most beautiful light and this is where wedding ceremonies are held, it’s great because you don’t need to have too much in the way of decoration but I really love the flowers that Andrea from The Art Bunch created for Katie & Chris.
Katie got ready over the road at The Abbey Hotel which was a bit of a squeeze but I feel made it all the more fun and I love the prep photos with all of Katie’s bridesmaids and the mums. It’s just a very short walk across the road to the Abbey once you’re ready. I really love the photos of Katie’s wedding dress from White Leaf Bridal blowing in the wind as we walked over there.
The ceremony was so sweet and filled with a lot of love as these two said I do and there many special moments to capture. After the ceremony we headed out for some windy confetti & group photos. This was an early Spring wedding so all weather was to be expected!
Then it was on to celebrating. the great thing about Battle Abbey is the grounds. There is so much space and Katie & Chris kept everyone entertained with crazy golf from Bintems. I love this, I think it’s so great and really adds to the photos when some sort of drinks reception entertainment is provided.
Shortly before the call to the wedding breakfast, we went to take some couple photos in the grounds. You have the wonderful gardens which were filled with blossom & rhododendron at that time of year but also the atmospheric ruins of the Abbey itself. This wedding venue really has so many great options.
The space where you have the meal has grand library vibes and beautiful light. Even though the decor at Battle Abbey feels quite traditional it’s big and bright enough for that to be an asset, then combined with beautiful tablescapes and flowers you have something quite special. The food is always delicious here as well and I have always found the staff to be so kind and helpful.
After dinner we had the speeches which were deeply heartfelt and it was so clear how much these two mean to each other but also to their family & friends.
Post dinner we moved back into the main hall where Katie & Chris cut their beautiful cake which was made by their friend before everyone got stuck into the party and this lot REALLY partied, we had dance offs & break dancing which was a lot of fun to capture,
I hope you enjoy the photos!
