What a bloody year, some of my favourite moments.
Well what a fucking year that was.
Choosing the images for this blog post has taken a solid few hours and when choosing I found myself most drawn to the moments. The one thing the last two years has taught me is that moments matter. It’s definitely changed my approach to my work. Now more than ever I am drawn to the images that show the silliness, joy and emotion of a wedding day.
2021 was hard, I don’t think any of the couples who got married last year will fully understand what wedding suppliers and in particular photographers and videographers have gone through. We lost our work and livelihoods for months on end and then had to cram in 2yrs worth of work in under 7 months. It has been so intense and so much sacrifice has been made.
I am only just really starting to process it as I enter a month away from my cameras.
That being said it has also been wildly wonderful.
So much bloody love, partying and dogs! So many dogs this year.
I have also witnessed couples making their days their own more than before. It’s like the pandemic threw out the rule book and people focused on what they wanted. From eating dim sum by the river to drag queens and squeezing two ceremonies into a day. There has also been rain, so much god damn rain. Never in my career have I had such a wet wedding season but each of my couples embraced it and while rain is annoying it can also add something pretty fun to the day.
I am not going to ramble on for too long as the photos will do the work but I am so thankful. Firstly to my couples who have been so supportive throughout, then to the amazing suppliers I have worked with, these weddings would not happen without you and then lastly to every single one of my photographer friends who I have nothing but admiration for, despite all our struggles this year we have managed to be there for each other and I think that is amazing.
Enjoy the wild ride that is 2021.
